abstract
the aim of this paper was to study of the effect of fenugreek seed (trigonella foenum-graecum) and asparagus root (asparagus officinalis) on in vitro digestibility and kinetics of gas production of alfalfa hay. fenugreek seed (fs) and asparagus root (ar) were added at different levels (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% of dm). total phenolic components of alfalfa hay (ah), fenugreek seed (fs) and asparagus root (ar) were 5.9, 10 and 8.3 g/kg dm, total tannins 0.4, 3.8 and 1.5 g/kg dm and saponin 10.4, 27.3 and 40.3 g/kg dm, respectively. in vitro dry matter (dm), organic matter (om) and neutral detergent fiber (ndf) digestibility of alfalfa decreased (p

full textIn vitro estrogenic activities of fenugreek Trigonella foenum graecum seeds.
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Trigonella foenum graecum commonly known as fenugreek, has been widely cultivated in Asia, Africa and Mediterranean countries for the edible and medicinal values of its seeds. Earlier reports show that fenugreek seeds provide a mastogenic effect resulting in enhanced breast size. However, very little is known about its estrogenic effect. The present study investigated th...
full textIn vitro studies on antiradical and antioxidant activities of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum) seeds
An extract of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum) seeds was isolated and evaluated for antioxidant activity using various in vitro assay systems. The seed extract exhibited scavenging of hydroxyl radicals ( OH) and inhibition of hydrogen peroxide-induced lipid peroxidation in rat liver mitochondria. The OH scavenging activity of the extract was evaluated by pulse radiolysis and the deoxyribos...
full textEFFECT OF FENUGREEK (Trigonella Foenum-Graecum) SEED EXTRACT ON VISCERAL ORGANS OF BROILER CHICKS
The purpose of this research work was to evaluate the seed extract (aqueous) on the visceral organs of broiler chicks. One hundred and sixty, day old broiler chicks were randomly assigned to four treatments A, B, C and D. Each treatment was replicated four times with ten chicks per replicate. Group A, B, C received the aqueous extract of Fenugreek @ 10, 20 and 30 ml/L, respectively while group ...
full textModulatory Effect of Fenugreek (trigonella Foenum Graecum) Seed Extract on Salivary Glands Lipofuschinogenesis in Aging
The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate antioxidative property of fenugreek seed extract (FSE) on lipid peroxidation and fluorescence product in salivary glands of mice. The aging was induced by D-galactose (Dg). Adult albino male mice (Mus musculus L) were divided into four groups viz. 1)Control group received subcutaneous injection of 0.5 ml sterile water/day for 20 days 2) Dgtre...
full textEffects of genotype and environment on seed and forage yield in fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) grown in western Canada
Fenugreek is being developed as a forage legume crop in western Canada, as it has desirable agronomic and forage quality traits. The objective of the present study was to determine if genotype x environment interactions have an impact on seed and forage yield when plants are grown under the short growing season of western Canada. Two studies were conducted: one with up to 83 accessions grown un...
